Integrated CFD-PBM modeling of flocculation for separation processes


The objectives of this work are:

  • Development of flocculation models (PBM) for shear-induced as well as Ca- or polymer induced flocculation
  • Implement the PBM models in CFD models for separation processes: settlers and flitration units
  • Optimise this integrated model for different modes of operation
  • Apply experimental design techniques to produce virtual data to extend and calibrate 1D- models for settling and filtration. These models can be used in simpler plant-wide models that can be applied for system optimisation and process control
